It starts with my Dad. I was born in Canadian Rockies in what, at the time, was a sleepy mountain town called Canmore. I spent my childhood outdoors and always surrounded by the kind of characters that sort of lifestyle breeds (read: dirtbags). This colourful subculture is what began my fascination with hearing stories and learning more about people. I also spent my childhood watching him work tenaciously as a photographer, teacher and contributor to our community. I'm proud to be the second generation working to continue the visual tradition and it's pretty cool that now I get to work on projects with my hero.

If it starts with my Dad, it ends with my Mum. She taught me to love endlessly, work tirelessly and forgive quickly. Her constant encouragement and support allowed me to remain curious.

I approach every project with an untethered enthusiasm to learn more about the world we live in and then to share that newfound knowledge and appreciation with others. We may start as strangers but I can guarantee we'll part as friends.

Rheanna Toy

Rheanna has worked in film and video since 2014 after graduating from Simon Fraser University with a BFA with Honours in Film. She has produced more than 200 videos for clients across business, non-profit, tech, and education sectors. In addition to her commercial work, Rheanna has directed, produced and edited several independent films and documentaries. Her skillset is wide-ranging: equally adept at leading creative teams or working solo, she often directs, shoots, and edits her own projects. Known for her thoughtful approach, Rheanna brings a gentle presence to set and a deep sense of care to the people and communities she films.
